Jake Phelps I Mean Cator Sparks

While in New York several weeks ago our dear friend Cator Sparks took us out for a night of frolic and fun. I can’t remember the name of this gay bar that we went to. I was snapping pictures and staying as close to Price as possible so that I didn’t find a random tongue down my throat. I just love this photo of Cator in my slave skateboards hat, he kinda resembles notorious Thrasher Magazine editor at large, Jake Phelps. “get in where you fit in!”

Scout Seals The Deal

This is our dog Scout. Every day when I start to make coffee, Scout slowly makes her way out of our bedroom to greet me. Right after a brief, but thorough stretch she calmly walks over to the front door and waits for me to gather my belongings. When I pick up the keys off the holder next to the door she proceeds to hop getting her front feet of the ground about 2 inches or so. She’s ready to go. Today was a big day for us as we signed our first non-endemic book distribution deal. Very soon skatebook will be available to everyone all over the United States through traditional book sellers. I’m proud that our loyal bulldog Scout was there to help seal the deal. She also met the team over at GrindTV.com as well, but we forgot to take a picture over there.

For A Good Time Call 718.387.9006

where do i get a skatebook? where can i find skatebook? how do I get a skatebook? what is a skatebook? answer all of these questions this thursday night at kcdc skateshop in brooklyn, ny from 6-9pm. there will be free tequila sampling by pura casta tequila company if you are 21 and over. also the party is definitely not sponsored by the brewery that is directly across the street. so our guess is that they are not a contender for the unofficial, official beer of skateboarding contest. kcdc is at 90 n. 11th street at wythe, williamsburg, brooklyn, new york. for more info call oops for a really good time call 718.397.9006

The Reluctant Critic

I finished reading the reluctant fundamentalist. Being an Iranian-American, I have to admit that there are parts of Moshin Hamid’s book that intrigued me; certain sentiments that hit home. On the other hand America has become somewhat of a cheap and easy target for critics over the past decade. What imperialist empire hasn’t had it’s fare share of criticizers? Quite frankly isn’t Islam the largest religion in the world? Would it be fare to say that Islam has invaded many of the nations where the people adopted it’s tenets? It’s safe to say that Iran is one of them. To this day I don’t understand why or how an entire country could be subjected to an alien paradigm. Must be fear of hell or the sword, I guess. I must admit that This was a hard book to put down due to Moshin’s writing style and the subject matter. Does America deserve the hate expressed in this novel? possibly. Then again if the USA shouldn’t be the most dominant influence in the world with regards to politics, economies, civil liberties, atrocities and the list goes on, then what country should be? Like it says in the book. Nothing lasts forever and time only moves in one direction. Worth reading.

Museum and Gallery Visits In NYC

Pettibonepettibon

Price and I have been in NYC since late July. Since arriving we’ve been working and visiting with friends. I even went and skated the Autumn Bowl last night. I only managed to bust open my knee, bash my chin, and I may have possibly re-broken my wrist. Quite frankly I suck at skating. Bravo to all the Lakai boys and whoever else is over 35 killing it on their shred sled, cause it is extremely cumbersome for me to skate these days. I don’t know how they all do it. As well we’ve been visiting with artist, going to gallery’s and museums. Here are a few pictures of some of the are we’ve seen. Enjoy, cause we sure have. Images are from the gallery’s listed below. I’m no art critic just a casual observer.

Last year price and I went to Africa – check the photos. Our good friend Chloe and Peter who own and operate several extraordinary safari camps invited us and many other friends to have a big party in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Our time there was unreal, they planned 3 of the best weeks of our lives for us.

More recently foto8 published some of Chloe’s photos online of a subject she’s been documenting for some time. The photos taken with real film are of girls who participate in beauty pageants, which according to Chloe are a common affair on a Saturday night in Botswana.
